Indigenous People have always been the most vital stewards and protectors of our environment. Currently, 80% of our planet’s biodiversity is maintained by Indigenous People. Expertise from their cultures and traditions is essential to our collective future. In honor and celebration of this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we are rewatching our favorite films from Indigenous storytellers and filmmakers. One of our favorite films that stands out as a meaningful celebration of Indigenous traditions and conservation is SPIRIT OF THE PEAKS. “Centered around skier and Hunkpapa Lakota, @sacredstoke , SPIRIT OF THE PEAKS dives deep into the struggles of identity that comes with being stuck between two worlds. His mission is to connect the Ute people with the mountains that they were displaced from and work towards restoring balance through his own reciprocity. This film will call on anyone who spends time in the mountains to feel a deeper connection to the land and embrace traditional Indigenous ethics when fighting for the preservation of these sacred places.” SPIRIT OF THE PEAKS screened at Mountainfilm in 2022 as part of the Minds Moving Mountains Speaker Series: Bridging Divides with @lennecefer . Go to the link in our bio to watch SPIRIT OF THE PEAKS now! We are always looking for ways to contribute to positive change for Indigenous communities. Please comment and tag your favorite organization that is uplifting and supporting indigenous voices and initiatives. Mountainfilm takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded homelands of the Nuchu (Ute) and Pueblo people. #indigenouspeoplesday #celebrateindigenousbrilliance #celebrateindigenousculture #mountainfilm #mountainfilm2022 #filmmakers #documentaryfilm #indomitablespirit #telluride #colorado
