@goodlight.world has officially touched down on this planet 🌎👽 I’m so proud of and inspired by @seoulcialite. Seeing the beauty industry rally around him and the launch of @goodlight.world in the last week is a testament to his character, something I’ve been lucky enough to witness since he brought me on to edit and write for @verygoodlight in May. Back then, I was three months into a career shift into full-time freelance writing during a pandemic and barely had enough beauty bylines to rub together, but David took a chance on me, which I’ve now learned is something he’s consistently done for others throughout his career. In the beginning I felt like a fraud, but I knew I had made a commitment to him, to our readers, and to myself. I couldn’t break it. That in itself lightens the cognitive load so much, because I already had the internal meeting with myself. The reason it’s called work and not a hobby is because you make a commitment to show up everyday. The way we act determines how we feel way more often than the way we feel determining how we act. Starting over in this way has been a masterclass in positive self-manipulation. In the beginning, just like falling asleep, you’ll be faking it. But then after awhile, you’ll actually be doing it, and it’ll be nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact moment when the shift occurred. It’s been one of the joys of my life to grow alongside David, the team at Very Good Light, and now good light. David has always been vulnerable, honest, and open about the challenges of running a publication and developing a skincare brand, but from this side of the table, all I see is a generous and compassionate leader whose honesty and relentless drive will take this industry to new heights. I just feel lucky to be on this ride with him, supporting the things he built in any way I can. First stop?
