As many of you know, bringing Between the Lines to life has been an eight year journey and a labor of love. After being delayed by the pandemic for two years and finally getting an off-Broadway theater again, I got to spend a couple of months in the company of talented actors and creatives bringing this story to the stage, and it was one of the most joyful moments of my career. I have seen my characters become three-dimensional, and I have watched people laugh and cry and come back to the theater over and over because the message spoke to them so clearly. We wanted to bring a little joy to a post-pandemic world, and we DID. However, it's not REALLY a post-pandemic world, and that is even more clear in the theater community. Our cast was ravaged by Covid and we lost nearly two weeks of preview performances. And although audiences uniformly enjoy the show and jump to a standing ovation -- almost half the audience is buying a ticket the day of the show. Producers can't sustain shows that don't have advance ticket sales - and it's affecting almost the entirety of Broadway which (with a few exceptions) is playing to houses that are not full. As a friend said, when Broadway gets a sniffle, Off-Broadway gets a cold. Here's the great news: this isn't the end of our story. We have an astounding cast album coming out very soon. We hope to stream the show at a later date, so audiences all over the world (not just NYC) can buy a ticket. We have a licensing deal, so local theaters can perform the show. And we believe we will see other productions one day, overseas. But...if I can ask anything of you, it is to support live theater right now. Go buy tickets, especially if it is a new show. That's how today's new shows become classics, and right now, those actors and shows need you more than ever. Oh, and if you're in NYC, you still have a few weeks left to visit us. ♥️
