It’s been an entire week since I ran the New York Marathon and I still can’t believe it!!!
Running the marathon was a dream and honestly, a bucket list item I never thought I’d cross off because…let’s be real, running 26.2 miles is crazy lol but ya’ll don’t understand what crossing that finish line meant to me. I’ve never pushed myself this hard before and it was deeper than just the miles.
It started with a “simple” 20-mile challenge from my friend @tonianastaciaa. At the time, I could barely run three miles without stopping … then came an email from @saratan asking if I wanted to run the NY Marathon with @strava. My first thought? Sara, are you okay?! But if you know me, you know I believe in signs and this was one I couldn’t ignore. So I said yes and locked in.
For the next three months, I ran everywhere. New York. Chicago. LA. Kentucky. Virginia Beach. No matter where I was, I ran + somewhere along the way, it became my therapy. The things I saw, the thoughts I worked through, the quiet moments on my own two feet.
There were days I didn’t want to run but I showed up anyway. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do hard things…and now I feel unstoppable.
Crossing that finish line was everything. The mental clarity. The joy. The love. The community. The runner’s high. All of it hit me at once and I’m still processing it.
Months of training, sacrifice, and pushing my body (even through an injured knee two weeks before) came together in one six-hour run through the greatest city in the world. My only goal was to finish and enjoy the ride, and I did more than that. I completed something less than 1% of people in the world attempt to do.
Coming off an egg-freezing cycle and endometriosis surgery just four months ago, this moment reminded me how beautiful and resilient women’s bodies are + I’m so grateful for mine.
To my crew — my village — thank you for loving me through every. single. mile. I couldn’t have done it without ya’ll!
See you at the next race 👀🏃🏾♀️💨💘
