I’ve reached the halfway mark of my 10-week intensive course at @condenastcollegelondon. Wow! Preparing for an intensive course, and living it are two very different things. I’ve been riddled with guilt and anxiety; is this the best time to be studying a full-time course? Should I be putting my education before my son’s extracurricular activities? Where will this lead? Am I wasting time? These thoughts of self-doubt all bubbled and boiled over this week. Monday afternoon, after squeezing into the sauna, a central line train, I rushed to collect Carter from his after-school club. After walking through our local park, to find props for my college project, we got home at 7 pm, 30 minutes before his usual bedtime 😱 I flicked the kettle and had the pleasure of sitting down for 2 minutes on my ‘throne’ the kitchen chair and burst into tears. My son, my little hero, ran to console me and reassured me that I was making the right decision "Mum you can do this, I believe you can do it". It’s funny, often the roles of parent and child are interchangeable, and our children give us the encouragement we need. Being a single mother is far from effortless, but rather a circus act of spinning various plates single-handedly. I am proof that life doesn’t have to stop, it may take us longer, and we may have to face more obstacles; childcare! But all is possible if we believe it to be. My course has been great thus far, I’ve learnt so much in just 5 weeks. Keep me in your thoughts, as I continue to stride and occasionally stumble into my future.
