Mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted... but so grateful nonetheless. Unbeknownst to us, our sweet Emma had suffered a scratch under her arm sometime between her birth and our first few days home. While changing her clothes Sunday morning, Nilo and I noticed a fairly large boil under her right armpit & took her to get checked out. Apparently the scratch or cut (which was not visible to us) allowed for staph skin infection to grow and we ended up in the hospital for 3 days. I cannot begin to explain how emotionally exhausting and triggering it is to see your child uncomfortable, poked and prodded all while you’re trying to nurture your family bond and create a successful foundation for breastfeeding. As if learning your newborn wasn’t tough enough, just add a hospital setting, 3 IVs and tons of wires/monitors to the mix. Our sweet Emma was so strong and endured the most rigorous exams and procedures including two lumbar punctures. I’d be lying if I said I’m not traumatized by our experience. I hope and pray we never have to experience anything like that ever again. My whole heart goes out to parents whose children have complex conditions and require extended hospital stays or extreme procedures. We are so grateful and blessed to be home. Emma is doing very well adjusting to being home and is reacting well with the antibiotics we are administering. *continued in comments*
