Chaat masala is one of my favorite spice blends - commonly used in Indian street food, with an incomparable flavor thanks to dried mango powder, coriander, cumin, black salt, and chili powder. Find it online or in an Indian / International grocery store! This dip is easy to make, healthy, and delicious. Tag me when you make it, and enjoy! ✨
Ingredients
1 15.5 oz can of chickpeas, drained & rinsed
8 oz cooked beets
1/2 cup tahini
Juice of 1 lemon
3 cloves garlic
1 tsp chaat masala
Kosher salt to taste
Cold water to thin to desired consistency
For the tadka
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 dried chili
4-5 curry leaves (optional)
Combine all ingredients in your blender. Add cold water incrementally to thin to your desired consistency and scrape down sides of the blender until completely smooth. Adjust to taste with salt and lemon.
Over medium-high heat, add the oil to a tadka or small frying pan. When the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds - they should start to sizzle after a couple seconds, and when they do, add the cumin seeds. When they sizzle, add the chili and curry leaves - immediately remove from heat, swirl the oil and pour it over the dip. Serve immediately!
