When trauma gets stuck in our nervous systems, even though the event is over, every time something reminds us of that traumatic event (consciously or unconsciously), our prefrontal cortex goes offline and our brain can’t tell the difference between the present moment and the moment that the trigger occurred. Fortunately, there are some beautiful techniques that can bring you back into your body and back to the present moment ✨ 1) box breathing - inhale for 5, hold for 5, exhale for 5, hold for 5. do this as many times as you need to until you feel your body start to regulate again. 2)resource safety- think about a time when you felt safe - what were you doing and how did it make you feel? breathe into that 3) healing hands - touch is actually so effective when triggered! place your hands on the part of the body that feels the most tense - breathe deeply - send healing to those areas 4) 54321 grounding technique: * 5 things that you can see * 4 things that you can touch * 3 things that you can hear * 2 things that you can smell * 1 thing that you can taste if you’re feeling like you need more support with this, please reach out ❤️
