Chevron's abuse of the legal system must not be tolerated. Today I am grateful that the US Supreme Court officially docketed my petition while a top law media outlet (Law.com) notes the increasing support in legal circles for overturning my unprecedented private prosecution by @Chevron. Having a single judge charge someone with a crime, lock them up indefinitely at home, appoint a private prosecutor from an oil company law firm, and then sit in judgment without a jury violates the rule of law and is highly offensive to liberals and conservatives alike. That's what happened to me. Judge Lewis Kaplan essentially served as grand jury, prosecutor, judge and jury in the same case! As my lawyer Marty Garbus recently stated, he has observed trials in China that were more fair. That's why legal monitors from the United Nations (via its Working Group on Arbitrary Detention) and US Ambassador Stephen Rapp condemned the entire prosecution and 993-day detention as illegal. Attorney General Garland, the Department of Justice, and President Biden all have ignored these reports which are highly embarrassing to the US government. They need to pay attention both to protect the rule of law and to preserve the freedom all advocates need to fight for the causes in which they believe. Chevron's "judicial seizure of power" in US federal court targeting me was brazen and unconstitutional. It was designed not only to evade compensating Indigenous persons in Ecuador for poisoning their traditional lands, but also to silence me and send a message of intimidation to all environmental activists. Chevron's plan continues to backfire. We are stronger and moving forward. 👊🔥
