It might be the middle of winter for those of us in the northern hemisphere but we are living eternally in these obscure artworks by Japanese record cover artist Hiroshi Nagai, whose hyper-real paintings feel like a vehicle transporting you to the pure optimism of 1980s tech boom Japan mixed with the sun-washed American mid century. ⁣ Awash with palm trees, calm pools, and terracotta sunsets, Nagai's work was a frequent accompaniment for a burgeoning music scene in his native country: City Pop.
