Here at The Wonder Women Official, we are not anti-sugar. However, we do like the use of sugar substitutes because of their impact on insulin and blood sugar. ⁣🧁🍭 ⁣ Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar. With insulin, glucose (sugar) can enter your cells to be used as energy. However, if you consume more calories than needed, the energy your cells can’t use will be stored as fat. This is problematic because many women want to lose fat- not gain it. ⁣🧬 ⁣ Many sweet treats are very calorie dense and the high sugar content in them causes a high spike in insulin. If you are not able to use the energy quickly you risk fat storage. Sugar substitutes then play a great role as they do not spike insulin. This means that your body can take a slower time digesting the food and using it for energy without the risk of storing fat. Do note that sweeteners range from no calories to lower calories than sugar (only a portion of the calories in these sweeteners can be utilized by the body as fuel and that is only after gut bacteria have fermented them, a much slower process than sugar digestion).⁣ 🔬🧫 ⁣ Unsure of sugar alternatives?
