IRON: I saved the best for last! This essential nutrient is one many of us tend to have a harder time incorporating into baby’s diet. But what if I told you a baby’s iron needs between 6-12 months are more than an adult male?
And for some reason we are still told to offer our babies fortified sources of iron, such as infant cereal. 🤯😡
A baby actually builds their iron stores in utero, mostly during the 3rd trimester. Those stores typically last until 6 months old, but thereafter a baby requires complementary iron-rich foods to meet their needs along with breast milk or formula.
When starting solids it’s important to remember that tiny tummies need nutrient dense whole foods that include iron-rich real food sources. Swipe for the why, what, and how!
