In college, I would write a lot of poetry about things that made my heart heavy. Today, as I see hundreds of photos of people celebrating Christmas with their families, I think about the those in Palestine who are suffering and grieving the more than 20,000 dead.
This includes Palestinian Christians, who would have been celebrating Christmas with their own families if they could. It’s unsettling to consider that while many Americans are gathered with family to open gifts, thousands of others are burying their children and running from bombs that the US paid for. This cannot go on.
If you’re still unsure of where you stand... I ask you if the bombing of innocent children and families is something you’re okay with to get to whatever policy goal you want? Does wiping out entire generations of families get you closer to it? And if so, what exactly is that goal?
Most of my audience shares my view, but I hope the poem I wrote might give someone pause and encourage them to support a ceasefire if they don’t already.
I pray for a Palestine where children can live out their lives with their families in peace, and hope you do too. Wishing love, happiness and peace to everyone today ❣️
