Greetings from the Old Rectory, where we’ve had a quiet day (in marked contrast to the momentous events at Downing Street). I did some work this morning, then caught up on the news, which induced a feeling of mild dread, so I went outside for a therapeutic stint in the garden - and the combination of dahlias, sweet-peas and the companionship of a cheery cocker spaniel did me the world of good. Now I’m cooking supper: pasta with crispy bacon, homegrown courgettes and spinach, followed by apple crumble using fruit from the orchard. Home, sweet home...
