Cabbage: so often the bane of the dinner plate. Yet back in the second century BC, the Romans were cabbage crazy – using it to treat wounds, prevent swelling and even reset dislocated bones. So revered was the humble cabbage that in his book On Agriculture, Roman statesmen Marcus Cato refers to it as “the prophet among vegetables.” Sometimes steamed, always esteemed.
