Mwinzi is taking milk feedings into his own hands — or should we say... trunk! While we admire his self-sufficient aspirations, orphaned elephants like Mwinzi require round-the-clock care through their infancy and into adolescence. We raise each orphan until they are ready to be reintegrated back into the wild — a process that can take upwards of a decade. Foster parents play an integral role in this process, funding the hands-on husbandry that has raised over 300 orphans and counting. Yesterday, we welcomed lots of new foster parents into our herd, as gifted adoptions were found under Christmas trees and in stockings around the world.
