Out of the more than 100 covered bridges that Vermont is home to, there is just one in Southern Vermont still celebrated as a Kissing Bridge... and it can be found right outside the @vermontcountrystore in the tiny town of Rockingham, Vermont. 💫 Originally called the Depot Bridge, it was built in 1872 in West Townsend but was later condemned in 1950 when the Townsend Dam put the site of the bridge in a floodplain. Founder of the Vermont Country Store had it taken down board by board and relocated to where it sits now and renamed the Victorian Village Bridge but nicknamed the Kissing Bridge. 🐴 But where and how did it get its Kissing Bridge name? Back in the horse and buggy days, the young lads driving would stop halfway across the bridge and sneak their lady a kiss. So many old timers in Vermont started called covered bridges kissing bridges! Read the whole history inside the bridge itself. Stop by to smooch your special someone on the bridge to keep the tradition alive! 💋 ⭐️ What’s your favorite covered bridge in Vermont? ⭐️
