"It's time to uncage the Hawk" If you're anything like me, that line - and the hair flick that followed, had you pumping your fist in anticipation of the return of 'Bad-ass' Hawk, but alas, it wasn't to be as, moments later he'd fall prey to a Silver Bullet at the hands of Kenny Payne. What was great about that moment though, is that it signalled a shift in the Eli/Hawk character - that he now recognises that he is in fact, both. No longer defined by the haircut, or the attitude, but still able to flip the script when the situation requires. And that personal growth continues as, by episode 10, we've seen Eli fully embrace this and mature - consider how frustrated he is when he loses at the water park, it's almost petulant - and how angry he is at the official (and rightly so) for calling Kenny out of bounds after landing that awesome kick and yet - when taunted by Kyler in the finale, he's accepted those defeats and knows they don't define him as he finally gets the chance to lay hands on the bully who's taunted him for so long. I don't know about you guys, but I love where Eli's at right now. We've seen him at his lowest, taunted and humiliated, and we've seen him at his highest, defeating Robby Keene to become All Valley champ - what we're seeing now, is a grounded, centred...dare I say it...'balanced' Eli who is no doubt benefitting from taking a page or two out of Moon's book.
