Commonly referred to as “pec slapping,” the whale lies on it’s side repeatedly raising a pectoral fin into the air and slamming it back down with a loud splash. It’s another way that whales communicate with each other. Humpback Whales actually have a very strong joint where their pectoral fin attaches to their body, similar to the human shoulder in fact.
