"Oh, Poppy + Rose! That soul food spot downtown, right?" Well... yes and no? Our brunch menu @poppyandrosela definitely takes inspiration from soul food, but we also have a patissier in house who hand makes our desserts and pastries, we have recipes that are distinctly Los Angeles inventions, and we even a NYC style bagel! After opening this restaurant and serving a few dishes inspired by our families, Poppy + Rose became known as a soul food brunch spot. But that oversimplifies who we are, and washes over the meaning of soul food! We are passionate about sharing the unique history of this cooking style; it shoud also be something that lives on its own as a cuisine type, rather than only being assocaited with Black chefs.
