Earlier this month, I turned 31 & birthdays can be wonky & weird. When you’ve spent the better part of a decade waiting to hit a “magic” number, it’s a strange sort of disorientation when that awaited 30th year comes to a close, without the finalization of hopes you hoped... dreams you thought would be. Sometimes you have friends who know those dreams - that tension - & they jump on planes for a grand surprise & blow up ginormous balloons on trains & schlep themselves + luggage to the middle of Penn Station, NYC. We’ve walked through hell & stared down life & death & held onto a fierce kind of gritty hope for each other.. WITH each other... & we’ve come out on the other side stronger. Together. From heartbroken hospital halls to laughing hard down crowded Chinatown streets, they’re the ones who have shown up in the good & hard, the grief & joy, & lived the tension of this crazy thing called life. Four brave & broken little Chinese hearts brought us together & we are surely the luckiest.. to be their mamas & to have found each other through their stories 🔥⚡️🌈🦁. A friendship full of “me too’s” & “I know’s” is a gift beyond words & come what may, they are mine. Thank you for making my birthday the most surprisingly wild & wonderful weekend, @biblewilliams @pitterpatterart & @ginnaclaire, & for all of the well-wishes here. I am abundantly grateful for this life & all it’s held... for another year & all that will be.
