Happy Martin Luther King day! I’ve always identified as a mixed girl (check box other) multi racial black and white girl and I’ve always been very proud to be African-American. From growing up in North Carolina and having my boyfriend break up with me on Martin Luther King day because I told the class my dad was black. To being called the N-word and beating up little boys as early as I can remember. My mom is white but bless her. She’s always liked the black culture too. I’ve always been exposed to hip-hop and r&b music and southern food. My stepdad’s always played Marvin Gaye and the Isley brothers and you’ll never find me at a cookout not dancing, or a social event not being the loudest, one in the room. There’s something about black culture that brings people together and always creates a vibe and makes the energy fun. Def not stale... lol I’m not dark skin and have experience racism so I can only imagine what other people have experienced darker than me and not multiracial. I will say it’s amazing to see what has changed in the last 35 years of my life. We still have a long way to go but today as a multi racial woman I am super proud to be half black half white. Thank you for groups like the @slicegirlstennisclub that allow me to connect with my people.
