“I fart in your general direction.” - French knight 🦨 Well, that was uncalled for. "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!" Really? If frightened or bothered, a skunk may lob more than a verbal insult about your mom. Watch out for a smelly, oily substance headed your way. This liquid is produced in two anal glands under its tail. It can also be expertly aimed and hit a target up to 10 feet from, umm, the source. How nice. Remember, not all skunks want to spray you. Like people, some are just jerks, but spraying is generally a last resort. Once they have used all their liquid, it can take up to 10-14 days to refill the glands. Not a good idea if they want to warn off another group of knights carrying coconuts. The nice skunks will usually give you a warning. They will stomp their feet, scratch the ground and even hiss to make you go away. Spotted skunks will even do a handstand accompanied by choreographic pacing. If you do get sprayed, don’t worry, the scent can last for a few days and cause you some discomfort, but generally isn’t harmful. (Just a flesh wound.) Have you ever been sprayed by a skunk? What’s your best remedy for removing the odor? Image: Stinkin’ cute. A striped skunk with tail raised. #skunk #fartsquirrel #nationalparks #naturephotography
