ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: EAT ETHIO @eatethio is a multilayered project that celebrates the culture of Ethiopia by merging the relationship between food, music and artistry. Originally founded in Shanghai by Ethiopian native, cook and herbalist helinatesega from her yearning to communally celebrate and shine a (new) light on her culture. As a project Eat Ethio has travelled wherever Helina has called home, moving to Hong Kong where together with her partner @scottalbon they hosted intimate and immersive supper clubs at their home and studio, making the list of the Top 10 Private Kitchens in Hong Kong by CNN Global. The couple also like to share their Ethiopian record collection and held monthly listening sessions at The Music Room at @potatoheadhk. In London a collaboration with @brilliant_cnrs and @analoguefoundation for @giant___steps and more recently a summer supper with the musical movement and record label @touching_bass have joined the dots and reinforced the passion and relationship between music and food. Helina’s cooking centres around nourishment, incorporating the learnings and spice blends from her mother, whilst being true to her own journey, with a focus on seasonal, wild and foraged ingredients and herbal medicine. Now calling Margate home, Helina was delighted to host her first Margate supper at Bottega Caruso in August and is excited to be feeding you all as part of Elsewhere’s 4th Birthday celebrations.
