Deeply saddened to share that after 8 years of battling cancer, my father Tom Kramer passed away on December 13th. Trying to articulate my feelings is beyond me. My dad was everything to me. He taught me how to have a work ethic and that if I wanted money I must work for it. He taught me how to respect others, and what it means to have faith. My father’s faith was something he was proud of. He taught me how to have a relationship with Christ, and how to lean on him during difficult times. My dad also wasn’t afraid to call me on my sh!t, something that was common while I was a lazy teenager. And something I’m grateful for now. A favorite story of mine was when I had zero desire to go to college and wanted to go to art school in a Chicago, Dad said, “Go to college and afterwards, you can go do anything you want, if you still wanna go to California and chase your dreams then you can.” He always told me i needed have a backup plan incase things didn’t work out, and my degree would be my backup plan. I agreed to go and my dad picked out every single class my freshman year, as he knew I didn’t want to go. One of the classes being Hollywood 1, a class where we studied movies. We both shared a love for film. He used to show me his favorite directors and actors like Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Robin Williams, Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, and many others. I remember going to see Inglourious Basterds in theaters before moving to Los Angeles when I was 25...a one way road trip, where he drove me every single mile to get there...pretty sure he wanted me out of Indiana so I could finally chase my dreams of being an artist. My dad was one of the greatest storytellers I ever listened too and I’m so grateful I got my storytelling ability from him. He inspired me to share parts of my life through my videos and one day I got the opportunity of a lifetime to create a music video for Avicii - The Nights that shared a part of my life. I decided to use advice my father gave me while growing up as the storyline of the video. 8 years later, the video has nearly 900 million views.
