This month started off so bright ☀️ Because after 7.5 years running this organization as a volunteer, yesterday was my first day as a full-time, paid staff member for @operationperiod 😭 Thank you to the many volunteers who have worked for the org, to our donors, and to our community who is why we are here. When I founded the organization, I had no idea what our future would be. I had no idea we would name the month of May as International Period Month and celebrate with more than 50 events and 50 partners or that we would develop a political ideology that centers and fights for menstruators of all backgrounds. I just started because I knew I had to do something — anything — to fight for us. In federal prisons, incarcerated menstruators often only get two pads PER MONTH. Unhoused menstruators often use toilet paper in lieu of menstrual products. And trans menstruators often have their identities invalidated because of their periods. A different future is possible. One where everyone not only has their basic needs met, but can be as expansively as they dream. That’s what menstrual freedom means to me. And that’s why the future is menstrual freedom.
