#RecentAcquisition ✨ Koichi Enomoto (b.1977, Japan) creates incredible and exciting worlds through masterful draughtsmanship, with figures set in energetic spaces that appear like digital collage. Enomoto's paintings are distinguished by their maximal compositions that hold no space, literally and figuratively, between reality and fantasy, nature and technology, the pop-cultural and the personal. "Light in August" (2021) stars two manga-like youths behind the wheel, accompanied in the wild vignette by their pet dogs, LPs, and a set of expressive bystanders in their wake. Altogether the image becomes a meditation on popular and youth cultures, style, and cross-cultural exchange.
