Lucie Rie’s Vienna apartment designed by Enrst Plischke in 1928. When Rie fled Nazi occupied Austria in 1938, she arranged for the whole interior - custom fitted cupboards included - to be dismantled and sent to London where she would live and work for the rest of her life. The cabinets were carefully reconfigured to fit her small home and studio. Upon her death, the furnishings were purchased by the Imperial Furniture Collection and shipped back to Vienna in 1995. The original 1928 apartment was reconstructed and restored, with two rooms on permanent view at the Möbelmuseum in Vienna (where I was able to visit this past weekend 🤯). photos: @vladpotop , Getty Images and the Plischke Archive
