Shout out to @tracklib for reminding me about this sample flip from some years ago. I think @smilesdj took this video (probably on a Blackberry) at @mjqofficial for early @faceofffridays. This was around the time there was a lawsuit against Lil Wayne for using @phifeforever voice from a UK remix of Segundo on A Milli (produced by Bangladesh). I remember he was at the house when we got the email. He had no idea that that was his voice on this huge record. No one did. Props to the producer. In true Phife fashion, he said, ‘I ain’t trippin, we sampled people!’ He was more flattered than anything. Needless to say the law suit was resolved amicably because at the time both @atcq and Wayne’s catalogs were controlled by Sony. What you see here is me using @serato (then called ScratchLive) to manipulate the loop, in internal mode, so I could slow it waay down. The crowd’s ’a-ha’ moment is what I think all djs chase.
