Look what we happened to stumble upon in the office today... It turns out that 25 years ago this evening, the first (semi-public) performance of Anthony Payne's 'elaboration' on Elgar's previously unfinished Symphony No. 3 took place at Maida Vale. The performance followed several days of recording for NMC's release of the work - we also found these notes from the sessions and rehearsals, including how directions to the venue were given in the days before Google Maps...!
