WING WEDNESDAY!⁠ ⁠ Once we establish which strains of microalgae we want to use, how do we actually get them to produce oil? Interestingly enough, some species of microalgae have evolved for the sole purpose of making oils. This happens in 2 steps:⁠ ⁠ 🔬 Step 1: We input the microalgae cells into fermentation tanks. The tanks are set up with the optimal temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen content so that the microalgae cells can multiply. Once in the tanks, we feed them sugars.⁠ ⁠ ⁠🧪 Step 2: Through a series of biological processes, the microalgae cells fill up with oil.⁠ ⁠ But once the cells fill with oil, how do we extract it to use?
