I recently had the pleasure of designing a poster for You Won’t Bleed Me, @posterhousenyc’s new exhibition of Blaxploitation film posters. It was such a treat to study & digest the visual language of the Blaxploitation era, with all of its complexities and nuance. This poster served as a great device to think through the underlying tension between aesthetic ownership / creative autonomy, White consumption of Black aesthetics, and the tug-of-war of representation evident throughout the movement.
