Today in #DumboHistory, we're celebrating Emily Warren Roebling, born on this day, Sept 23, in 1843-179 years ago! 🥳 DYK: when Emily's husband, Washington A. Roebling, the chief engineer for the Brooklyn Bridge, fell ill, Emily stepped in to oversee the completion of the world’s first steel-wire suspension bridge?! 👷‍♀️🔨She was the first person to cross the bridge, too — carrying a rooster with her for good luck, as the story goes. 🐔 Swipe for a photo of the beautiful Emily Warren Roebling Plaza, beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
