The last time that I was in Rome we stayed at the @domhotelroma
DOM- ‘deo optimo maximo’, meaning ‘to God, best, and greatest’.
It is an intimate 18 room 5 star hotel that overlooks one of the most charming and historical streets, via Giulia. The restaurants, bar and terrace are fantastic!
Also interestingly it is right across the street from Rome’s ani-mafia headquarters.
So beautiful and romantic. Just what my husband and I needed.
Via Giulia is a cobblestone road that was designed by Bramante for Pope Julius II in the early 1500’s as part of an urban plan to link the port of the Tiber to the Vatican providing easier access. It is also a straight 1 KM long road which was completely unlike any of the winding streets of the city. For Rome, it is a quiet street great for a leisurely stroll with several historical interests.
1-Fontana del Mascherone, commissioned by the Farnese family and designed by Giralomo Ranaildi in the 1600’s. It is not a free standing fountain but is attached to a wall behind the Farnase Palace. It is storied that from the fountain flowed wine for celebratory occassions. Well, that sounds fun!
2-Farnese Arch designed by Michelangelo in 1603, a beautiful ivy covered arch that was originally intended to connect Palazzo Farnese to Villa Farnesina located on the other side of the Tiber but never completed. I was a Renassqince Art History major in college. I could roam the streets of this city endlessly! #roma #viagiulia #domhotelroma #travel #historical #charming #seetheworld #renaissance #michelangelo #vatican #arthistory #italia🇮🇹
