Being in Kenya and working with the artisans to create our new @amanustudio collection is one of my favorite parts of my job. I met little Benta and her brother Anton (and their dog Zingzing 🤩) when she was only weeks old and now I’m back and able to work with her family on my own brand. Her grandparents (also Benta and Anton 🥰) are amazing casters... Anton loves fanta orange is obsessed with dogs and rescues all the stray pups, (swipe 👉🏻 for the cutest 🐕🙈🥰 ) so visiting them is always the best. Then there is Elisha. He is the most gentle soul. He works out of Kibera, one of the largest slums in Africa and does the most beautiful, detailed metal sheet work. Knowing how your pieces are made. Investing in people not just in products. Consume consciously. That’s my wish for us as we all move forward. Fast fashion cannot be the way we buy. The waste alone is killing the planet. You can’t buy a garment for $7.99 and expect that every person has been taken care of, that the item will last as long as it needs to and that the factories will have been able to put all the correct practices in place to avoid environmental damage. It’s just not possible. We need to change the way we buy. 1) Buy fewer, better pieces. Wear them 50 times not 7 (which is the average these days). Be thoughtful and intentional about how you buy. 2) Get things mended rather than throw them out. 3) Understand the journey of your garments. Demand transparency. No brand has this down perfectly, but some are way better than others. Fashion is the second dirtiest industry after oil. The impact it has on the planet is immense and we can all play our part and do better... myself and @amanustudio included. #Amanu #GoWanderInAmanu #sustainableFashion
