Small but powerful actions can promote inclusion and kindness. Social isolation, the overwhelming feeling of being left out, lonely, or treated like you are invisible, is a growing problem in the U.S. and within our schools. Excessive feelings of isolation can be associated with violent and suicidal behavior. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression. As a result, many pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development, and may choose to hurt themselves or others.
#StartWithHelloWeek, a national call-to-action week from September 19-23, is dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. It's not too late to join! Sign up now: sandyhookpromise.org/startwithhelloweek
Part of our no-cost "Know the Signs" programs, the #StartWithHello program teaches students in grades K-12 to build connections, end loneliness, and help each other throughout the school year. Learn more: sandyhookpromise.org/startwithhello
