When writing this song, I thought deeply about the pain and struggles black people, people of color, and women have gone through in this country just to make their voices heard in this democracy. I thought about the black men and women being beaten, killed, or threatened just for putting their ballots in a box. Fast forward to today, and I see voter suppression in a whole new evolution. The SB 202 bill that Brian Kemp passed into law in Georgia is just one example of the voter suppression that sweeps this country and stems from our dark past. I hope these lyrics and this song inspires us to use our voice, and to keep fighting for our voice to be heard. “Till then, no Justice, no Peace”. 💪🏾🖤🙏🏾
