Since the 1980s, Northern Liberties has gone through more rises and falls than the Roman Empire.
Its current ascent is seeing 5,200 new homes in mostly mid- to high-rise projects permitted over the last four years, according to the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association.
The current development boom can be seen throughout the community.
◆ On Spring Garden Street, three high-rise projects are going up from major developers such as the Southern Land Co.
◆ On the site of the former Vesper Day Club, Ori Feibush is building for-sale townhouses and renovating a nearby historic church for apartments.
◆ The last vacant lots and buildings are being filled in, including a warehouse on Second Street that created a dead zone on the vital commercial corridor.
And the centerpiece of the action is a 1,126-unit apartment complex from the Post Brothers, a high-end development that the neighborhood hasn’t previously seen.
The big question? Whether Northern Liberties, and developers such as the Post Brothers, can retain these residents as they start having families.
We dig in at the link in our bio.
