#HUMANSOFALTA meet Molly Austin! A new member of the ACE Board! Molly grew up in California and attended UC Santa Cruz, where she majored in Sociology. She is named after her great-grandmother who emigrated to the US from Poland and mostly spoke Yiddish. While she doesn’t consider herself to be religious, Molly identifies as Jewish in a cultural sense. She loves word games and puzzles of all kinds, is a sucker for country music, and her signature look is skiing with her hood up. Her cat is named after her favorite Alta ski run! Though not entirely true, there is a running joke that there is nowhere in Alta that Molly hasn't worked :) She moved to Alta in November of 2011 (3 days before her 23rd birthday). She started as a Sous Chef at the GMD, and has since also worked at Alta Lodge, Snowpine Lodge (old and new), Alta Ski Lifts, and recently started her current job working for the Town of Alta. When asked what her favorite memory at Alta is, Molly said her mind was immediately flooded with so many memories from her first season in Alta. One that sticks out is the day that she finally understood the meaning of "free refills." It was a windy storm day in March. Late enough in the season that she had had enough time on skis to finally feel comfortable exploring the whole mountain by herself (but not ready to keep up with the go-hards on the High T) so she chose to spend the day on the more approachable and less-crowded Supreme - and couldn't get enough of it! Molly remembers coming back in at the end of the day just beaming. We love underrated Supreme laps, too Molly! To Molly, Alta Magic is the way that it’s beautiful every day, and the views never get old! The first snow in the fall when the trees are still vibrant with autumn colors is her favorite day of the year. She loves that Little Cottonwood Canyon provides the space for newcomers to grow and flourish. She arrived at Alta thinking she would barely make it through one ski season, and left that spring knowing that she could make a life for herself here. And she’s done a beautiful job with it.
