Greetings from the Old Rectory, where I’ve been enjoying several restorative hours of gardening, after doing a live radio interview with @mariella_frostrup about “Miss Dior”, which is out now in paperback. Most importantly, it’s my older son’s birthday today (though we’re not seeing him until tomorrow), and I’ve been thinking about how swiftly the years have passed. Of course, everyone tells you this when you become a mother - “time will fly by” - but it’s only in retrospect that the truth of these words becomes evident. Anyway, the dahlias in the garden are still producing beautiful flowers, and the courgettes are continuing to flourish. I’m halfway through cooking our supper - steak from a local farm with sautéed new potatoes and homegrown vegetables (runner beans and yes, courgettes again). Then we’re going to catch up on last night’s episode of “Shetland”. Home, sweet home...
