Well, it’s that time of the biennium again–the 89th Texas Legislature has gaveled in for another Session. #txlege I’m Senator Sarah Eckhardt, one of the 11 Democrats in the Legislature’s upper chamber standing up to corruption and the corporate capture of our state. Join me these next 140 days to hold power to account, get things done, and return power back to the people of our state. I’m not new to this. I’ve spent the last 35 years of my career serving our great state. In that time, I’ve watched Republicans hobble our government then turn around to place the blame on Texans for its failure. As the former Travis County Judge, an attorney, and a Texan who's tired of carrying the burden of their failure, I say, “Enough.” I got into this work because the awesome power of government enables us to build a better world. From Day 1, I have been committed to achieving a fair, efficient, effective, and minimally intrusive government that serves the public–not the other way around. Nothing changes for me this Session. I’ve introduced bills expanding badly needed healthcare access, supporting our woefully burned out teachers, bringing down our all-too-high rents, and much more. It would be unconscionable for me not to try and get these things done for my constituents and Texans for generations to come. Let’s do this thing! Join me this Session as I hold power to account, work to get good things done, and return power back where it belongs: with the people of Texas, not in the hands of corrupt corporate conservatives.
