I should have been a dermatologist. While I may not have had every skin ailment, I definitely have had more than my share. I’ve tried every color of Retin-A (anyone else make it to red?), took Accutane twice, and have battled every type of acne under the sun- teen, hormonal, adult, cystic, pregnancy, postpartum... Let’s just say I wasn’t blessed in the skin department! All of this has led to way more skin knowledge than the average non-dermatologist. You name the treatment- it’s likely I have tried it.
My hope is to make this journey a little easier for others. Skin care should not be overwhelming. Yet we are only hearing more and more terms. What should you do or not do?
Here’s what I have learned, simplified.
1. CLEANSE- the more gentle and simple the cleanser, the better. Exfoliate gently if you feel you need it.
2. CONTROL- pretty much lump all your antioxidant/vitamin-c like serums together. The trick is to not do too much. Choose one at a time. If you insist on using more than one, apply in order of consistency- thinner to thicker.
3. TARGET- retinols, benzoyl peroxides, and acids grouped here. Again, do one thing at a time. (Evening only)
4. MOISTURIZE- this one is key! Find the right moisturizer for you that isn’t clogging. Add in moisturizing drops or serum like B5 and Hyaluronic Acid.
5. PROTECT- Sunblock! (Whenever you are seeing any sunshine)
I’ve had a few DMs on this and thought it best to share here. I hope this helps!
