WING WEDNESDAY!⁠ ⁠ Last week we explained how the microalgae cells produce oil... but how do we extract the oil from the cell? Oil extraction happens in a process called Downstream Processing (DSP). There are three steps in DSP:⁠ ⁠ 🧪⁠Step 1: First, we dry out the algal biomass.⁠ 🦠 Step 2: Next, after removing the water, we physically extract the oil from the algal biomass.⁠ 🧪⁠Step 3: Lastly, after extracting the oil, we purify it.⁠ ⁠ Stay tuned next week to meet the Analytical team!⁠ ⁠ #WINGwednesday #biomanufacturing
