Man this sucks. We just had Charles Morales over at my firehouse about a month ago. It was his back when it was Firehouse 9, now it’s 49. I met Charlie at the the Square Grouper a few years ago when Mike Bloomberg started these monthly get togethers. It’s been hard to make it out them recently for a number of reasons but I still kept in touch with Charlie through text or calls ever so often. I’m really glad he decided to stop by, we gathered everyone around the table. I got him soda, we had coffee and talked for over an hour before we got a Fireboat call. He gave us a picture of the truck he drove while stationed here along with a couple of his Firefighter license plates. I walk by that picture everyday at work think about Charlie. Although I’m sad, I think about the fact that if it weren’t for these retiree gatherings I wouldn’t have made a new friend in Charlie. Thank you for that Mike. Rest In Peace my friend.
