I recorded a podcast yesterday with Simi Shah from @southasiantrailblazers. Towards the end of the conversation, she asked me about advice I would give to other South Asian female founders. I realized there’s one main thing I can share and it isn’t specific to South Asians, women, or founders... it is something more universal and which I believe will be a life long journey for most, me included. The singular advice is to try to hold yourself in mind. It’s always been a challenge to keep one’s own fulfillment front and center. This gets more complicated with having a family and becomes almost impossible with social media blasting others’ accomplishments. I will never be sure if I did a service or disservice to other women by starting a company with two small children. Do I make others feel insufficient when they don’t do the same? Even though raising children is hard enough? Or am I a shining example of what can be possible? There will never be a definitive answer to this question. The answer is likely both at the same time. So all one is left with is their own reason for being and doing. How do you hold that mission in mind always? How do hold yourself true in the noisy, conflicting world we live in? How will you live so that you don’t have regret?
