So grateful to Parkinson’s Life for featuring @paintingwparkinsons and our work to bring art therapy to people in the Parkinson’s community 🙏🏾 And to @lacejayne for being the driving force and the incredible art teacher propelling this work 💛 As I mention in the interview, this work and abolishing ableism is extremely important to me. Watching the progression of his condition has been hard to watch — mainly because of the ableism he’s faced. I remember once my dad was presenting an award at my high school when, suddenly, he stopped talking on stage. His condition had caused him to freeze. Students in the audience started booing him and I remember starting to sob in the audience, but I couldn't get through the crowd to help him. So, if there's anything I can do as a secondary caregiver, I want to make sure I'm doing it — because I want him to live a life that he feels is fulfilled and satisfying. And that really starts with making sure this world is accessible, providing resources beyond basic necessities— like art therapy — and ensuring that we are addressing ableism at every corner.
