When you hit your 30s something in you says that you can’t learn new things. We already have careers, routines, and a “new thing” is more of a distraction than a joy.
And if you’re anything like me, there is also this part of you that says “I’m supposed to be great at everything” and if I can’t master it in 24hrs, it must not be my talent, and that part is “kinda” true, tennis is not my talent, it’s my joy. ( and how limited would I be if I only worked within my 1 or 2 talents.)
When you’ve cultivated your talent for so long, starting anything with a learn curb is hard and intimating. And honestly, why try anything new, if you already know what makes you feel good, and successful.
But then I met Brad, my coach, he doesn’t know me as a writer, or anything about me actually. He just knows me as his student. He knows my dedication level, and my learn curb. With him, I feel that little girl, safe, with a good teacher.
This is the first thing, in a long time, that I want to wake up for, to practice, just because. Tennis, is not about me becoming great, its about me becoming a better student.
It’s about me showing up to something I’m not good at with commitment. It’s about falling in love with something new, something all mine. These bodies deserve to know new things.
