Trend: Rethinking Snow. I believe snowfalls will be a phenomenon in the future. The trend business is ultimately heart-breaking. In 2016 I created a trend forecast/presentation “The Builds and Collapses of Dimensions on the Trendscape”, and said that “masks would be the biggest accessory in the world in 5 years.” Many ppl were aghast and for some, I think concerned I was making a claim probably (so seemingly) off the mark. Last cpl weeks I’ve been on a project, researching and looking at trends in/around environmental action/innovation, sustainability, ocean health, regenerative design, interspecies justice, ecocide...w some humanities and consumer wellness priorities. Connecting these dots has made me feel faint and nauseous for the most part...and there’s this weighted feeling to anticipate the demolishing force of impact to come. Connecting dots of the consequences we’ve collectively driven. Erupting everywhere, and damaging in many different ways like shrapnel. As a little girl, I remember being angry at my mom who would have to cover up my Halloween costume w a snowsuit. And our Siberian Husky would be almost chest-deep in snow by Oct 31st in Toronto, Canada. Everything’s shifting quickly. I’m already thinking about how I’m going to recall and intricately describe the feeling of great snowfalls when (and if) I near 100 years old. Knowing it’ll be a rare event. How damaging are trends? What if we rebranded snow?...to be “the caviar of the clouds”?!? Would you value it then? How much would we value the ability to experience it? It’s an awful idea or thought to have, isn’t it? To sell others on LIFE. How damaging is the knowing? It’s the knowing that both kills me and gives me life.
