The Unstoppable Dorothy Bohm: Now 98, I had the great pleasure of having tea with the pioneering, kind and rather majestic photographer whose work spans eight decades of still life, portraiture, landscape, reportage and social documentary. One of Britain’s most prolific living image-makers, who escaped the Nazi’s to carve out a career in England, she says, “I’ve had a very busy life. I’m leaving behind a kind of photographic history - 32 countries, 20 books and 26 shows.” Bohm was one of a swath of talented female emigre photographers to find financial independence through the medium in the 1930s, kick-starting a whole new era in photography. Hers is a story of positivity and triumph amidst tragedy.
