I remember crying, weeping with true guilt, the night before we had our second, that our first baby wouldn’t be the baby anymore. I was afraid of my first not feeling loved, and terrified that there was no way I could love a second as much as I loved my first. And then, miraculously, your heart expands and grows and wraps around both babies in a way you couldn’t possibly imagine until you experience it. And with each new baby that same experience repeats itself. Just like your womb that made room for one more, your heart is even more capable. It has taken me 4 babies to finally know that with my 5th, I’ll still have every bit of love left over for my last baby and an expanded heart that will surround that last baby in just as much love too. This has to be a tiny taste of how God feels too.
